Fire and smoke motors using external springs have a history of performance issues and we recommend replacing these installations with more reliable actuator solutions using internal power springs.
Replacing obsolete motors that use external springs to close the damper requires a bit of investigation to ensure proper installation of the replacement solution.
Some old springs must be removed from the fire and smoke damper to eliminate excess wear and stress on the replacement actuator. Without removal of the old spring, the actuator becomes overworked and the motor will fail prematurely.
